The game “Cross of the Dutchman” takes place in medieval Western-Europe, and tells the story of a man who’s life has been taken away from him by the Saxxon invaders. He rises against the enemy oppressors, and goes to battle to free Frisia, the lands of his fathers, once and for all.

“Bûter, brea en griene tsiis, wa’t dat net sizze kin is gjin oprjochte Fries.”
“Butter, bread, and green cheese: if you can’t say that, you’re not a real Frisian.”

That was the shibboleth that struck fear into the hearts of thousands of Dutchman at the start of the 16th century. It belonged to the Frisian warrior, Pier Gerloffs Donia, called Great Pier by most people. And for a reason: everyone who saw him described him as a giant man, wielding an even bigger sword. He started out as a farmer, but on a fateful day, everything was taken from him. That day, he swore he would not rest until he had his revenge on the Dutchman and had freed his people. The battles since that day earned Pier the name “Cross of the Dutchman”.
